Closing a business checklist (federal steps, plus state steps where researched)
Stopping work does not by itself close a business with the state or the IRS. This checklist follows the IRS and the state agencies' own guidance. Each step shows the date its official page was read. Tick items as you go (ticks stay in your browser only).
Federal and general steps
Follow your articles, bylaws or operating agreement. Keep minutes and records of how remaining assets are distributed.
